Thomas L. Jackson

Thomas L. Jackson, 92, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in Mason, Ohio. He was born November 14, 1923 in Cromwell, Kentucky to the late Elijah Walker Jackson and Verna Porter Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James B. Jackson and Franklin D. Jackson; and one sister, Dorothy J. Watkins.

Mr. Jackson was among the first nine men in the Ohio County area to volunteer to serve in the United States Army in World War II. He participated in the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach, D-Day plus 2. He went on to earn a Purple Heart for his service. He was a member of Chapter 11 Disabled American Veterans of Kentucky for over 50 years and a member of the Wesley C. Phelps Honor Guard. Mr. Jackson retired from John H. Barnes Insurance Agency, after 40 years of service, and was a member of the Board of Directors at Kentucky Trust Bank (Beaver Dam Deposit Bank). He served as President of the Kentucky Soft Drink Association and President of Royal Crown Bottling Company. He and his wife owned and operated Beaver Dam Furniture Store. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church where he served as church Treasurer for 40 years, served on the Finance Committee and as a church Trustee. Tommy was a member of the Beaver Dam Masonic Lodge #420 F&AM, Order of the Eastern Star Grace Chapter #37 O.E.S., Ohio County Chamber of Commerce, past President of the Ohio County AARP and a Kentucky Colonel. He served on the Green River Area Conservation District, was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at the University of Kentucky where he majored in Agriculture. Mr. Jackson enjoyed spending time on the farm, real estate, following the stock market and Bluegrass music.

Tommy leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Baker Jackson, three daughters, Dr. Elizabeth Burgess and her husband Mark Burgess of Cincinnati, Ohio. Sara K. Maine and her husband Wesley Maine of Mason, Ohio, and Mary Lane Boustani and her husband Dr. Malaz Boustani of Carmel, Indiana and eight grandchildren, Jordan Burgess, Meredith Burgess, Zoe Burgess, Zane Burgess, Asa Maine, Tara Maine, Katreen Boustani, and Zayn Boustani.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. CST/1:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam with Military Honors provided by the Wesley C. Phelps Honor Guard. On Friday, September 16, friends may visit with the family at the Beaver Dam Baptist Church from 5:00-7:00 p.m. CST, with Masonic Rites at 6:30 p.m. CST. Visitation will continue on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. CST until the time of service at Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky.
