Allen Cecil “Bud” Ellis, 70 of Beaver Dam, departed this life on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Ohio County Hospital. He was born February 22, 1947 in Hartford to the late Hansford Woodrow and Winnie Westerfield Ellis. Mr. Ellis was a 1965 graduate of Hartford High School, and he retired from Highland Mine. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1966-1968 at the demilitarized zone “DMZ” near South Korea. Bud was a member of McHenry Masonic Lodge 800 where he served as Chaplain and was President of the Green River Chapter 3102 of Quail Forever. Mr. Ellis was a Kentucky Colonel, was a former Deacon at Woodwards Valley Church and a member of Independence Baptist Church. He was a past President of the Ohio County Football Boosters and coached many youth baseball and softball teams.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years Sue Lindsey Ellis, daughter Cindy Ellis Sandefur (Robbie) of Horse Branch, sons Darren Porter (Belinda) of Gold Canyon, AZ, Jeff Porter of Beaver Dam, and Alex Daugherty of Owensboro; grandchildren Nikki Porter (Joe), Darren Michael Porter, Danielle Daugherty, Janeanne Porter, Bo Sandefur, Patrick Daugherty, Blake Sandefur, and Emily Porter; sisters, Carol Lamar and Ann (Roger) Carter; nieces Latrisha Sampson, Lori Stewart, and Kimberly Carter-Campbell; uncle Jake Westerfield; his mother-in-law Rava Lindsey; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces-in law, nephews-in-law, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 22, 2017 at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wesley Phelps Honor Guard. Friends may visit with Mr. Ellis’ family from 4-8 P.M. Wednesday, with Masonic Services being held at 7 P.M. Friends may also visit from 9 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
