Charles Ray “Bubby” Hines, 79, of Centertown, Kentucky passed away Sunday, January 5, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born Wednesday, February 21, 1945, in Ohio County, Kentucky to the late Joe Bennett Hines and Mary Francis Moorman Hines. Bubby was a retired coal miner working for Pyro and Peabody. He was a member of Rockport Baptist Church, loved fishing, gardening and UK basketball. He served in the United States Marine Corps. After discharge he received his bachelor’s degree from Campbellsville University. He returned to Ohio County and McLean County as a teacher and coach.
Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by the love of his life for forty-nine years, Susan Taylor Hines; sisters, Diane Albin and Sue Smith; sister-in-law, Linda Hines; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Taylor and Junior Taylor and his very special dog, Boo.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, four children, Christa (Matt) Mattingly of Owensboro, Shannon Hines of Owensboro, Jordan (Erin) Hines of Lexington, and Joel Hines of Yakima, Washington; five grandchildren, Logan, Jenna (Zach), Gracelyn, Otis, and Ira; first great granddaughter on the way; brother, Larry Hines; in-laws, Iva (Jan) Embry and Anthony (Laura) Taylor, Cheryl (Jonny) Shrewsbury and Lawana (Jeff) Nauman; several nieces and nephews as well as several lifelong friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Rockport Missionary Baptist Church in Rockport, Kentucky with Bro. Wayne Stewart officiating. Friends may visit the family of Mr. Hines from 12 PM until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
