Eligie Mae Daugherty Smith, 92, passed from this life on September 2, 2021, at her home in Cromwell, Kentucky. She was born in Butler County, Kentucky on November 14, 1928, to the late Aarison and Delia Lindsey Daugherty. She was a Christian and the oldest active member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Baizetown. She was a gentle, sweet, caring, and special lady. She enjoyed visits from her family, holding all the new babies, gardening, trying new recipes and her frequent cup of coffee. She always had something prepared when anyone visited.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1997, her sisters, Ruthie and Emma Grace and her brothers, Delbert, Imon and Lanie Daugherty.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her children, Brenda (Larry) Moit, Rita (David) Sandefur, Roger (Carol) Smith, Marilyn Smith, Carolyn (Jim) Gray and Roy (Jennifer) Smith; nineteen grandchildren, Donna Baker, Bruce Crabtree, Cindy Stiff, Alicia Myers, Rusty Sandefur, Jenny Sandefur, Bryce Sandefur, Amanda Smith, Kristie West, CJ Smith, Melissa Rock, Michelle Smith, Daniel Peach, Tyler Taylor, Mandy Fulton, Eric Smith, Leanne Smith, Kaitlyn Smith and Joey Smith; thirty-four great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Daugherty and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, September 5, 2021, at William L. Danks Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Geary officiating. Visitation will be from 11 AM until the time of the service Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery in Baizetown, Kentucky at the homeplace where she raised her children.
A special thank you to Hospice of Ohio County, Jennifer, and Michelle for the special care of her. She will be missed by so many. May she rest in Peace.
