Portia Sue (Calloway) Maier

Portia Sue Calloway Maier, 75, of Hartford, Kentucky passed away on May 20, 2026, surround by her family at Ohio County Healthcare under the care of Hospice of Ohio County. She was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on March 3, 1951, to the late Porter and Vernell Calloway. She attended church at Hopewell Baptist. Portia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as playing the piano.

Aside from her parents Portia was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Maier;  son, Jason Daugherty and her “soulmate”, Jackie Casey.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, two grandchildren, Jessie (Joel) Wright and Hope (Johnathan) Moore; five great grandchildren, Ainsley Moore, Eli Wright, Harper Moore, McKinley Moore and Ethan Wright; stepdaughter, Tami Nelson; siblings, Theresa (JT) Payton, Dale (Karen) Calloway, Tommy Calloway, Kenny (Sheila) Calloway; aunt, Betty Sue Roach as well as nieces, nephews and a few close friends.

Her love, wisdom and kindness shaped generations of her family. She was the keeper of stories, the heart of every gathering and the one who made each of us feel deeply loved and welcomed. We will remember her warm hugs, gentle encouragement, her laughter and the countless lessons she taught us through her words and examples. She celebrated our accomplishments, comforted us in difficult times and showed us what unconditional love truly is. We will carry her memory with us always and honor her by loving each other the way she loved all of us.

A celebration of Portia’s life will be held at 2 PM Thursday, May 28, 2026, at New Zion Baptist Church in Baizetown (6990 Hwy 505 S. Horse Branch, KY 42349). Friends may visit from 12 PM until the time of the service Thursday at the church.
