Roger C. Hill

Roger Colin Hill went home to Jesus on March 24, 2023 at age 80.  Roger was born to Edgar and Julie Hill on September 8, 1942 in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Roger met Barbara Spangler, “Tiny” in Leatherwood, Kentucky at a young age.   They married on September 12, 1960, and went on to have four children, Merrita, Diane, Donald, and Ronald.  Roger and “Tiny” shared a love of antiques, church, raising a garden, and spending time with their grandchildren. 

In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, Roger started his mining career at Peabody Ken Underground, where he served and competed in Mine Safety & Rescue.  He transferred to Alston #4, completed his mine management certification and was assistant mine supervisor. Mine Safety & Mine Rescue team competitions allowed him to travel and meet people around the state. Throughout Roger’s life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him.  He was a member and pastor at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Fordsville, Kentucky from January 1987-2021.  Roger was a member of the McHenry Masonic Lodge #800 F&AM for 50 years. 

Roger joins his father, Edgar Hill; his mother Julie Hill; step-mothers, Alta Hill and Stella Hill; his brother, James Hill; his wife, Barbara “Tiny” Hill and his daughter, Cynthia Diane Hill in Heaven.

Survived by three children, their spouses, and loving companion:  Merrita (Danny) Cosimini of Bronson, Florida, Donald (Kimberly) Hill of Sandborn, Indiana and Ronald (Angela) Hill of Washington, Missouri and his loving companion, Joan Condit of Beaver Dam, Kentucky. He was blessed with twelve grandchildren,  Meranda (Scottie) Robinson, Andrea Benton, Chad Cosimini, Chelsea (Luke) Pawlowski, Austin Cosimini, Sarah (Derek) Williams, Chad (Dottie) Tichenor, Ashley (Matthew) Roberts, Zakary (Mara) Hill, Logan (Megan) Hill, Kylie Hill, and Taylor Barnes and nine great grandchildren,  Jadelyn Tichenor, Chase Tichenor, Delaney Davis, River Tichenor, Carter Roberts, Riley Tichenor, Michael Tichenor, Owen Pawlowski and Molly Hill; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Rev. Jerry Francis officiating. Burial will follow in Render Memorial Cemetery in McHenry. Friends may visit with Mr. Hill’s family from 4-7 P.M. on Monday and from 9 A.M. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Masonic Rites services will be held at 6 P.M. on Monday.
